A menu-bar reader for your Mac

Don't squint,
just listen.

Select any text, in any app, and a warm, natural voice reads it to you while every sentence lights up as it's spoken. No account. No cloud. Nothing leaves your Mac.

Hear it, right here

This is the actual voice.

Not a studio recording. Willow, generated on a MacBook by the app itself, reading the paragraph on the right with the same sentence highlighting you'll see on your own screen.

Any app · Notes, Mail, Safari, Pages…

Reading shouldn't be hard work. Select any text on your Mac, press play, and a warm voice reads it to you. Every sentence lights up as it's spoken, so you can follow along. Nothing leaves your computer.

How it works

Three moves. No setup each time.

The ferry left Cowes at ten past nine. By the time we reached Southampton the rain had cleared.

Select

Highlight text anywhere: a web page, an email, a PDF, a Final Cut transcript. The pill appears beside it.

Read aloud  ·  1.0×

Press play

Or press ⌥S. Or turn on “show and read” and it starts the moment you highlight.

Follow along

Open the panel and the sentence being spoken glows lavender. Big text, generous spacing, cream page.

Meet the voices

Four readers. All of them live on your Mac.

Tap one to hear it. These clips were generated by Ezay Read on a MacBook, not recorded by a person.

Willow

British
Warm and unhurried. The default.
Hello, I'm Willow. Shall I read that for you?

Arlo

British
Calm, low, steady.
Hi there, I'm Arlo. Take your time, I'll keep pace.

Nova

American
Bright and clear.
Hey, I'm Nova. Let's get through this together.

Atlas

American
Deep and reassuring.
I'm Atlas. Sit back, I've got this one.

Voices are blends of the open-source Kokoro model. More readers, and one day your own voice, are on the way.

Built for reading, not for show

Small pill. Thoughtful details.

Skip what you already know

Reading along and hit a dull paragraph? One tap skips to the next sentence. ⌥→ and ⌥← work from anywhere, even while you're in another app.

Slow it down, speed it up

0.7× to 2×, and the voice stays natural at every speed because it's re-spoken, not stretched.

Export a chapter

Writing fiction? Turn a chapter into an M4A in one click and send it to your readers. Runs in the background while you keep working.

It knows what not to read

Select a clip in Final Cut or a file in Finder and it stays quiet. Select a transcript, a manual, an email, and it reads.

Private by construction

Your words never leave your Mac.

The voice is an 82-million-parameter model that runs on your own chip. It downloads once, about 325 MB, and then Ezay Read works with the Wi-Fi off.

No account, no sign-inDownload, open, read. That's the whole onboarding.
No analytics, everNot “anonymised”. None. The app makes exactly one network request: the voice download.
Your clipboard put back as it wasIt borrows ⌘C to grab your selection, then restores whatever you had copied.
Who it's for

Made for people who'd rather hear it.

Dyslexic readersFollow-along highlighting, dyslexia-friendly text, and a voice that doesn't rush you.
Tired eyesLong articles, contracts, and manuals at the end of the day.
WritersHear your own draft read back. Clunky sentences are obvious out loud.

Good questions

Before you download.

Which Macs does it run on?

Any Apple silicon Mac (M1 or later) on macOS 14 or newer. The voice runs on the CPU and stays warm, so a sentence starts playing in under a second.

Is it safe to install?

Ezay Read is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarised by Apple, so it opens like any other Mac app. If you ever see a warning, it means the copy didn't come from ezayread.com.

What permission does it need?

One: Accessibility, so it can press ⌘C on your behalf to read your selection. The app walks you through it on first launch and puts your clipboard back afterwards.

Does it read inside Safari, Mail, PDFs, Word?

Yes. If you can select the text, Ezay Read can read it. Scanned images without a text layer are the one exception, for now.

What does it cost?

Nothing while it's in beta. When it launches it'll be a single one-off price, never a subscription, because it never has any running costs on our side.
